What the job involves

Every repair starts with finding the actual source of the problem, which isn't always where the leak shows up inside the property. Water can travel along rafters or underlay before dripping through a ceiling some distance from the fault, so we trace it back to the roof itself rather than patching the visible symptom.

Once we've identified the cause, whether that's a missing ridge, a slipped or cracked slate, a broken tile, a failed lead flashing or a split in a flat roof membrane, we agree the safest and most secure way to carry out the repair, including how we access it. Small repairs may be reached from a tower or ladder; anything more extensive is scaffolded properly rather than rushed.

Materials are sourced to match the existing roof as closely as possible so the repair blends in. Where a matching slate or tile has to be ordered in, we'll fit a temporary cover on the same visit to keep water out until it arrives.

Materials and standards we use

Repairs are carried out using materials matched to the existing roof wherever possible, whether natural Spanish or Welsh slate, fibre cement slate, clay pantiles, plain tiles or concrete tiles. Lead repairs follow Rolled Lead Sheet Association guidelines and use code 4, 5 or 6 milled lead as the detail requires.

All repair work is completed to a high standard for the fixing and lapping of slates and tiles. We take the same care over a small repair as a full reroof, since a poorly fixed patch tends to fail again quickly in Jersey's exposed coastal conditions.
